Viessmann redefines water solution standards with German engineering technologies to improve the living conditions of Indonesian families
Jakarta – As the largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is home to a rapidly growing urban population that is navigating through pressing challenges surrounding one of the society's most essential needs: clean and safe water. The Indonesian Statistics Centre Agency (BPS) suggested that water conditions in 10 out of the country's 24 provinces are highly contaminated with E. coli bacteria and not to mention other harmful substances such as coliform, chlorine and heavy metals including mercury, iron, arsenic and more.
As the country's water resources and infrastructure continue to face increasing pressure, the Indonesian government has implemented commendable solutions to address these pertinent issues, such as the community-based water and sanitation program PAMSIMAS and the Presidential Regulation Draft (Raperpres) 2021 for a comprehensive, integrated and sustainable water resources management, which encourages collaborations between the government, society and industry players.
Aligned with these efforts and in response to the urgent demand for clean and safe water, Viessmann, a German-based global leader in climate solutions, announces its entry to the Indonesian market by introducing a line-up of water heaters and purifiers for countries in the Southeast Asian region.
"We have started to strengthen our footprints in SEA since April 2021 with our water softeners, purifiers and heaters. Our mission is to offer future-oriented water solutions in Asia for generations to come, building on our German engineering technologies and leadership in heating, cooling, ventilation, water and air quality," said Alexander Ziehe, Managing Director Southeast Asia and Oceania, Viessmann.
Emphasizing on safety, high-quality, durability and comfort, the family business launched its latest climate solutions for Indonesia and Singapore, including electric and non-electric water purifiers, electric storage and instant water heaters, and clean hot water systems. Viessmann also supports the markets' industries through its energy solutions, which encompasses steam boilers, hot water boilers, waste heat boilers, and heat pumps.
"Sustainability is at the core of our corporate purpose and we want to create living spaces for generations to come. Apart from putting special attention to energy efficiency and safety in domestic water use, we also want to help improve the living conditions of Indonesian families by applying a high-quality approach to equip them with proficient and sustainable water treatment solutions," Alexander added.
With SEA's exponential market share growth for water solutions, Viessmann intends to expand its wings to other countries such as Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia. The company's future commitments include establishing local operations for R&D, production and quality assurance, extending the portfolio by adding further solutions such as air purification, and building a network of distribution partners across the region.
Viessmann's expansion in SEA will also involve customer journey development by optimizing ecommerce platforms and app connectivity. This is part of the company's innovative solutions led by the fourth generation of the family to deliver modern technology in presenting integrated solutions that connect products and systems through digital platforms and services.
Safe and reliable filtering
Viessmann's technologically-advanced water purifiers comprise six VITOPURE brand series – the S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 and S6 – all of which present their own distinctive features for washing, showering and drinking purposes.
The VITOPURE S1, S2, S5 and S6 series prevent sediments, rust, algae and other harmful particles from entering the water supply, which increase longevity and preserve household devices such as dishwashers, washing machines and water heaters. Meanwhile, the S3 series offers users with positive health effects to the hair and skin as it extracts minerals that can cause limescale such as calcium and magnesium.
Viessmann also brings a breakthrough solution to help cater to the need of potable water for Indonesian families by applying a multi-stage filtration system in its S4 and S4-RO series, which makes tap water safe to drink. To make this possible, a compressed activated carbon filter is applied to remove color, odor and taste from the water, while the Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF) compound filter removes chlorine, metals and reduces scaling. The S4 and S4-RO series also ensure safety from germs, virus, bacteria as well as suspended articles, insect eggs and sand through diatomite ceramics and PP (polypropylene) fiber filter.
In addition, a water survey conducted by Viessmann through a local partner earlier this year in Indonesia also proves that the S4 and S4-RO filtration makes tap water meet the potable standards. "For instance, potable water must not have a turbidity higher than 5.0 nephelometric turbidity units (NTU), while our S4 and S4-RO series are able to filter it down to 0.56 NTU," explained Dario Damati, Product Owner Southeast Asia Solutions, Viessmann.
"Among other harmful chemical substances found in water, pH level is also something that many are concerned about. Our filters are able to keep the water at pH level 7.29 - 7.58, which is in the safe range of 6.5 - 8.5 potable standards," he added.
Other chemical substances such as arsenic, mercury, lead, iron, manganese, aluminum, copper and more are also kept at a safe level if water is filtered with Viessmann's S4 and S4-RO series. In fact, also putting down biological substances such as e. Coli and coliform bacteria to less than zero – keeping Indonesian families from digestive illness.
Growing demand in water heaters
Aside from the safety and hygiene of the water itself, convenience and practicality are also important factors for today’s rapidly growing middle-class families in Indonesia.
"The conventional way of boiling water with a stove to produce warm water is no longer convenient. Despite Indonesia being a tropical country, showering with warm water has become a preference as it gives relaxation and relieves fatigue and stress. Warm water can also open up the skin pores to release toxins and improve blood circulation and quality of rest," said Dario.
Viessmann's new line-up of water heaters, the VITOWELL easy for instant electric heating and VITOWELL comfort for storage electric heating, deliver integration with water filtering technologies. They come in three segments, namely Classic, Premium, and Deluxe to offer users with different choices of convenience, provided in a compact design suitable for limited space at home and a smaller model for kitchen use.
Users can benefit from VITOWELL's high-level precision in temperature regulation as it offers efficiency in electricity consumption, equipped with an electronic timer and soft touch display that allow easy monitoring to control the heating levels.
Viessmann continues to prioritize safety as VITOWELL is equipped with Earth-Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) and Double-safety Thermostat to prevent short circuit and overheating. In addition, the products are built on Ceratech Technology, ceramic heating element and high-quality ABS material to ensure durability and saves the users from maintenance and repair hassle.
Partnership with FC Bayern in sustainability
Viessmann takes the lead in sustainability practices, with measures not only to protect resources for future generations, but also to empower people in realizing a positive impact on climate change. Therefore, Viessmann has become the official sponsor and climate partner of FC Bayern Munich in Southeast Asia with the aim to contribute to a safe, healthy and sustainable climate.
"Success, reliability, and sustainability are values that unite Viessmann and FC Bayern Munich. The club's resource-conserving behaviour is reflected in their "Sports – Be Sustainable" initiative, which aims to achieve the smallest possible environmental footprint in stadium operations," Alexander revealed.
The partnership focuses on the sustainable improvement of living conditions such as water and air quality, considerate use of resources, and the promotion of youth. To achieve these shared goals, various activities are continuously put in place such as the upcoming soccer camp with FC Bayern in the greater area of Jakarta for football schools and students as soon as the situation permits.
